WILFORD CRIME UPDATE
17th May 2010
At tonight's Community Group meeting PC
Nigel Brown reported that there has been an increase in crime (particularly
burglaries) in Wilford in the past seven to ten days (you may have noticed
an increase in police patrols recently).
(Report in the Nottingham Evening Post, Friday 21st May 2010)
The main trend is that break-ins have been to get hold of car keys to steal
an attractive vehicle that is on the drive. While they are in the property
they take the opportunity to steal small but high-value items such as
laptops.
PC Brown reassured the meeting that Nottinghamshire Police are currently
targeting Wilford in an attempt to solve and prevent these crimes - three
individuals have already been arrested and night patrols are to be stepped
up. The advice from PC Brown is as follows:
 |
do not leave car keys on view,
especially from outside your house (e.g. do not leave them where they can
be seen by looking through a letter box) and conceal them within the house
where they cannot be found even if a break-in does take place. |
 |
conceal any small but valuable items. |
 |
if you spot ANY suspicious activity,
call the police. PC Brown said that they would prefer to be called out to
false alarm than to a break-in. |
 |
now that the weather is warming up,
make extra checks that all windows and doors are shut, even if you are at
home - remember that you cannot watch every window and door. |
 |
if you do some gardening, remember to
put your tools away at night - spades make very good tools for prising
open doors and windows. |
PC Brown did, however, say that the crime rate in Wilford is still low
compared to most other areas of the city, but we should not let our guard
down.

Trimble in the intervening period about improving the library, not
once did the Councillor indicate that he had decided to close it. The full

opinion/ideas to our discussion. The library is yet another valued local
service that is about to be removed. We can’t let it go without considering
ways of trying to save it.
