Wilford Women's Institute

Wilford Women’s Institute was founded over 50 years ago and has played an active role in the community ever since.

We meet on the first Monday of each month in the Benjamin Carter Hall at 7.30 pm when we have invited speakers who cover a diverse number of subjects.  Several members also meet on regularly in the Benjamin Carter Hall to socialise and play darts, dominoes, cards or just have a chat.

In the year 2000 the WI held a successful Craft Event over a three day period which involved many of the local community who displayed their many and varied talents.  More recently we have taken part in a National Village Tree Survey and National Village Hall survey.  In July 2005 we ran a very successful Home Produce and Book Stall as part of the Wilford Open Gardens and Fete Day helping to raise funds for the National Kidney Research Fund Nottinghamshire Kidney Units Appeal and Burns Unit at the City Hospital.

There are opportunities within the WI to partake in many activities from monthly walks in Nottinghamshire, golfing, darts, whist, table tennis, these being just a few of the sporting activities available to members.  For those who prefer something less active, there are theatre outings, coach outings and on occasions we have been hot air ballooning and gliding and white water rafting at Holme Pierrepont. In 2004 we started a lunch club choosing a local venue once a month to have lunch, this has proved to be a huge success with between 15 and 30 people attending each month.

Please come along to any of our meetings and be assured of a warm welcome. If you require any further information please contact our Secretary,  Kath Kitt, on 0115 923 2895.
