1.

Dorothy Boot Homes Planning Application:  BH, RS and ST declared their interest in this matter as residents of Holly Avenue.  CA temporarily took over the chair of the meeting.  CA summarised events so far;  the original application had been withdrawn and the proposal for two new homes and garages had been abandoned.  In the most recent application there are 14 parking spaces proposed instead of 20 and the entrance to the car park is placed opposite 1 Holly Avenue.  CA read out DB’s email to the planning department which had outlined the WCG’s comments and objections to the original plans.  It was felt that car parking is now inadequate and will result in possibly inconvenient on-street parking.  A larger bin store had been provided.  It was agreed that the proposed entrance is not in the best place and is shown on the plans as being farther away from the 1 Holly Avenue entrance than it actually is.  Elaine had spoken to several local residents who all wanted the front area of the building to be maintained as an attractive green area rather than using it for parking.  There were a number of suggestions to improve the plans including placing the entrance close to the junction of Vernon Avenue and Holly Avenue and all agreed that this was more acceptable, although we are aware that another resident is opposed to this suggestion.  It was agreed that DB should be asked to write again summarising the points made tonight. Elaine suggested that we should urge the council to work  with us on finalising the plans. ST agreed to email DB the information first thing tomorrow.

Matters Arising from the meeting 17 March 2008:

  • Rear of Co-Op- premises:   Elaine Stenson offered to contact the enforcement officer for business waste and will speak to the Co-op manager to stress their responsibility for keeping this area tidy.
  • BH had invited a representative of Players to come to the meeting but had not received a resonse.
  • Litter bins:  2 new ones have been installed in the village.  We were expecting 3.  ST to investigate.  Elaine noted that after the successful litter pick recently near the Emmanuel School it had been suggested that another is need on the riverside path.  This may be a joint responsibility with Rushcliffe.  Elaine will check
  • Young People in Wilford:  Elaine reported that she had booked the Transformer from the Youth Service and will pay the Ł90 hire charge.  It is booked for 19 May from 6-8p.m. and will be placed on the paddock car park at the church.  Need to check whether DB has booked the Church Hall for this event. If the church hall is unavailable RS offered to lend us some gazebos. Publicity and refreshments will be needed.  Elaine agreed to pay for the refreshments.  PC Nigel Brown and Glenford are willing to hand out leaflets to young people.  It was suggested that the 12-18 age groups should be our target.  There was some anxiety about whether we have time to plan properly for this event and it was agreed that a small group of WCG members should get together. BR agreed to organise this. We must stress that the event is in partnership with Nottingham City Council.  BR will talk to Emmanuel School.  SA has a son on the school council there so he may be able to invite some young people.  We need to write a questionnaire to hand out at the event.  BH will liaise with Elaine.
  • Car parking at school times:  BR had written to Wilford School head and the Chair of Governors asking what they were doing to help resolve the problems.  The school gates are now shut at school start time which helps.  The Head had written to DB and to parents and the Chair of Governors had witnessed the bad driving first hand

The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed as a true record.

3.

Crime Figures:  Glenford reported that in March there had been 3 burglaries in Wilford, 2 thefts from sheds and 1 attempt and 1 theft from a motor vehicle.  There had been an attempted raid on the Co-op late at night with an intruder on the roof.  He had been caught.  There had been a fight in the Maypole pub and it is now closed down.  The police had intervened.  Illegal motorbike riders around the Iremonger’s Pond area had been warned off and there is now less emphasis on this as a priority for police.  Shrubs at the Harvester had been removed so there are less places for potential offenders to hide.

4.

Iremonger’s Pond:

BR reported that a constitution has now been set up with Julian Taylor as Chair, BR as secretary and Bob Atherton as a committee member.  BH will be overseeing the accounts.  The group had met Jenny French from the Council about taking on the lease.  Jenny had suggested a 10m area around the pond as a manageable area, although Diane Moore had rather more ambitious plans.  Maintenance of adjoining land will be the responsibility of NCC.  The group was pleased with this outcome. The group will get a fishing permit and a care and maintenance plan has been written by Diane.  It had been suggested that the group should apply to Area 9 for help with the cost of tools etc. but this might not be needed.  John (ex water bailiff) has been very helpful.  The council has decided to take away the handrail alongside the stepping stones to discourage people from crossing there.  WCG agreed that Diane’s expenses claims should continue to be met until the money is all gone.

5.

GP Practices:  Silverdale and Wilford had not been mentioned in a recent leaflet and no new libraries are to be built.  There is some talk of a joint building and BH wants to raise this with Area 9.  Elaine pointed out that this is a consultation document with the opportunity to respond to ideas

6.

Planters:  these are to be used as a deterrent to awkward parking in Wilford.  2 will be placed on Grange Close and 1 outside the old shop. They will be watered by residents and the council street cleansing team.  They will be installed at end of May/June this year.  Elaine thanked WCG for suggesting this idea and said it had been utilised in other areas.  RS enquired whether we could have more hanging baskets but it seems planters are easier to maintain.

 7.

Any Other Business:

·         Glenford reported that parking enforcement had attended Bader Road for two days

·         BR reminded the group that the Iremonger’s Pond clean up day had been set for 9 June 208.  This needs to be placed on the notice boards and website.
