WILFORD POST OFFICE TO CLOSE

27th June 2009

It has been confirmed today the Wilford Post Office will close on 3rd August 2009. It has been on the market (with the house attached) for three years with little interest generated. Sam and Flo will be staying in the house and extending it into the Post Office space.

TRAVELLERS MOVE ON - VIA WILFORD RUGBY GROUND

25th June 2009

After having been served papers to quit the Gresham Fields sports ground, the travellers promptly moved onto the Wilford rugby pitches last night (Wednesday 24th June) - that was the disturbance Wilford Village residents would have heard. However, as they had moved onto private property and had broken a locked barrier to gain entrance, police were able to serve notice to leave the grounds the same day. As is usual with these situations, a great deal of waste was left on Gresham Fields, despite the local council having left a skip there.

MESSAGE FROM PC NIGEL BROWN

BOGUS CALLERS/WORKERS

19th June 2009

There have already been a few incidents of Bogus Caller/Distraction type crimes in West Bridgford area. These crimes are typically committed by a person knocking on a door stating they are from the water boards/gas board/ electric company and there is a problem on the street requiring immediate attention. The person will then insist on gaining entry to check the meter or water pressure etc. Once inside a second person will sneak in and steal valuables whilst the householder is distracted with the first person. DO NOT LET STRANGERS INTO YOUR HOUSES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Check with the utility departments to confirm the identity and ring the Police if you have any suspicions but keep them outside and lock your door before you call. Refuse entry.

There have also been incidents of cold calling to repair gutters, roofs, prune trees etc. Do not let strangers do any work, they are likely to quote a cheap price then demand a large amount of cash if you allow them to work on your premises. The work is also likely to be substandard.

If in any doubt ring the Police immediately 01159455999 or in emergency 999.

The crimes as described cannot directly be attributed to these travellers but experience shows that this type of crime increases whenever we have groups in the area.

Please spread the work to prevent this type of crime happening.
